For several years, I worked with the inspiration of various stories. These stories ranged from innocent children's stories to beloved works of horror.
Dr. Seuss
I have always been inspired by the timeless messages of Dr. Seuss. His stories reach to the hearts of children, and express life-long messages of hope, exploration, and growth. His inspiration led to a focus on re-imagining his work as an adult.
H.P. Lovecraft
I've been working on looking at H.P. Lovecraft from the perspective of a mad artist. In this project, I focused on establishing a physiological fear response to both the artwork and the environment the artwork is placed. In this way, the artwork is enhanced through electromagnetic hyper-sensitivity, which is systematically caused by the Tillinghast Resonator. This machine produces a specific field that effects the perceptive abilities of an audience, inciting fear on the most basic physiological levels.
Each illustration (which I call "photographs" as they paint with light) is in image painted on glass lit from behind with purple and ultraviolet light.
Due to the darkened nature of these pieces, the photos of the lit pieces suffer. Thank you, Oz Hatke for some of these photos.
